BCMEA Conference - October 23rd - October 25, 2014
Welcome to the website for the annual British Columbia Music Educators’ Association Conference.
Conference Dates: October 23rd - October 25th, 2014.
We hope you will join us as we come together to celebrate Music Education and grow as professionals during this year’s BCMEA Conference.
Keynote Presentation - Anthony (Tony) Maiello
Anthony (Tony) Maiello - Anthony Maiello conducts the GMU Repertory Orchestra and teaches Graduate and Undergraduate Conducting, Jazz Theory & Arranging and Advanced Sight-Singing. From 1996 to 2009, he conducted the GMU Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestr a. Under his direction, the ensembles at both Crane and George Mason University commissioned new works, made numerous recordings and appeared at national and international conferences.
Throughout his career, Maiello has published musical compositions for string orchestra and is the author of “Conducting Nuances” (GIAPublications, Inc.); “Conducting: A Hands-On-Approach” (Warner Bros./Alfred Publications); and co-author of “The 21st Century Band Method” (Warner Bros./Alfred Publications). His combined band and orchestra background brings a wider appeal to our delegates.
Honour Ensemble Update
When the decision to postpone the Honour Ensembles was made, we were hoping to be able to provide our students with this musical opportunity later in the year. So it is with heavy hearts we share the news that we have been unable to find dates with an available venue and where all our conductors, coordinators, and students are free of other musical commitments.
We know this is a disappointment for students, particularly those in their graduating year. We encourage all students who are currently in Grade 11 or younger to re-apply and audition for Honour Ensembles in October 2015. Information will be posted in January.
We ask teachers to share this information with students and parents. If there are questions about fees that were paid, you can let them know the following: Parents who paid online have already had their credit cards refunded. For those who sent cheques, the coordinators have destroyed them.
Looking to the future, we are very excited by the fact some of our wonderful guest conductors have already been able to commit to coming next October, and your dedicated team has already begun planning for Honour Ensembles 2015.
